DRAFT draft-2026-10b: written in plain language for review by a lawyer before launch. Not legal advice.
Acceptable Use Policy
This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to everything on your site and everything you do with your account. If you're unsure whether something is allowed, assume it isn't.
Not allowed
- Anything illegal in Canada or Ontario, or helping, promoting or advertising illegal activity.
- Copyright or trademark infringement: photos, text, logos, fonts, music or videos you don't own or have a licence for, including images copied from Google or other businesses' sites; using another business's name or brand.
- Defamation: false statements that harm a person's or business's reputation, including fake or attacking reviews of competitors.
- Hate, harassment or threats: content promoting hatred or violence against people based on race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age or similar grounds; bullying, doxxing or threats.
- Adult or sexual content, escort or sexual services, and anything sexualizing minors (which we report to police).
- Weapons, firearms, ammunition or explosives sales or instructions.
- Drugs, cannabis, vaping, tobacco or alcohol sales, unless you hold, and show on your site, every licence the law requires. Never prescription drugs or controlled substances.
- Gambling, betting, lotteries or raffles (unless licensed by the AGCO or the right authority).
- Scams and fraud: fake businesses, fake reviews or testimonials, misleading prices or claims, get-rich-quick schemes, pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing (MLM) recruitment, crypto or investment pitches.
- Phishing, malware and hacking: pages that imitate a bank, government or other site, collect passwords, spread viruses, crypto-miners or tracking scripts we haven't allowed, or try to break or get around our security.
- Spam: using your site or our service to send or advertise commercial email or texts without consent, against Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
- Impersonation: pretending to be another person, business, government body or Honest Local Web.
- Regulated services without a licence: if your work needs a licence, registration or certificate (for example electricians, gas technicians, plumbers where required, real estate, insurance, mortgages, lawyers and paralegals, health professionals, security guards, contractors with required trade certificates), you must hold it. Don't claim licences, insurance or memberships you don't have.
- Collecting sensitive information: don't use your site to collect health information, Social Insurance Numbers, government ID, banking or card numbers, passwords, or information about children. Your contact form is for basic enquiries only.
- Overloading the service, using it as file storage, or reselling it.
How we enforce it
- Automatic checks may stop a site publishing.
- Reports hide sites automatically. Anyone can use "Report this site"; the site is hidden at once, and the owner is told and may fix and republish it.
- Removal and termination. We may remove content, keep a site offline, or close the account at any time, without notice and without refund. Serious breaches (illegal content, scams, phishing, malware, child exploitation, hate) mean the account is closed straight away.
- Repeat offenders are banned. An account closed for breaking this policy can't sign up again with the same email or payment details.
- Law enforcement. We co-operate with police and courts and may share account, billing and log information where the law requires or permits it, and we report suspected child exploitation as the law requires.
