Why every local business needs a Google Business Profile

When people look for a local service, many of them start on Google. A Google Business Profile is the box that can show your business on Google Search and on Google Maps.

What it is

It is a free listing from Google. You fill it in yourself. It can show:

  • your business name and what you do
  • your phone number and website
  • your hours, and your holiday hours
  • photos of your work, your shop or your team
  • reviews from your customers

Why it helps

  • People can call you or get directions with one tap.
  • Customers can leave reviews, and you can reply.
  • You can link it to your website, so people can learn more.
  • It costs nothing to set up.

How to start

  1. Go to google.com/business and sign in with a Google account.
  2. Type your business name and pick your type of business.
  3. Add your phone number, website and hours.
  4. Google will ask you to prove the business is yours. Follow the steps it gives you.

Keep it up to date

Check your profile every few months. Change your hours before a holiday. Add new photos when you finish a job you are proud of. Reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm and kind way.

If you use Honest Local Web, the "Get found on Google" page in your account walks you through each step.
